What is an NAD supplement?

An NAD supplement is a product intended to raise levels of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, a coenzyme central to cellular energy metabolism and DNA repair whose levels fall with age. Most products do not contain NAD+ itself but a precursor the body converts, usually nicotinamide riboside or nicotinamide mononucleotide.

What does the supplement NAD do?

In human trials, precursors raise blood NAD+ metabolite levels reasonably consistently.[4] That is a real, measured, replicated finding and it is worth taking seriously.

What it is not is evidence that you will feel different, live longer or age more slowly. Those are separate claims that require separate trials.

Raising a marker is not the same as a benefit

A blood NAD+ metabolite level is a surrogate endpoint: a measurable stand-in chosen because the real endpoint would take decades to observe.

Is the cheap nicotinamide as good as the expensive precursor?

Is NAD+ like Ozempic?

No. This question appears twice in the People Also Ask block for this search, which tells you how thoroughly the wellness market has blurred two unrelated things.

Ozempic is a prescription GLP-1 receptor agonist that acts on appetite and glucose regulation. NAD precursors are dietary supplements supplying raw material for a coenzyme pathway.

Different molecules, different mechanisms, different regulatory categories, different evidence bases. If you are interested in the drug class rather than the supplement, that is what GLP-1 drugs actually do.

What is the downside of taking NAD?
